Restoration and re-functionalization of the former Convent of Santa Chiara in Galatina in a multi-purpose social center. Intervention on facilities, outdoor spaces and accessibility for a welfare and inclusion presidio.
Restoration and re-functionalization of the former Convent of Santa Chiara
In 2018, the old Convent of Santa Chiara in Galatina was the subject of a complex restoration and reoperation. The objective: to protect the architectural and landscape heritage, transforming the complex into a Multipurpose Social Center dedicated to the reception and support of people in fragile conditions.
A community centre for inclusion and parenting
The new centre houses a housing community for mothers with children, an educational community for minors, a listening centre for families and parenting support services. A project that combines social vocation and urban regeneration, transforming a historic place in active presidio of welfare.
Structural restoration and installations for full functionality
The project included conservation restoration, solar pavement remediation, remaking of floors, claddings and windows, the removal of architectural barriers and the construction of pedestrian paths. The complex has been equipped with complete technological systems to ensure safety, efficiency and comfort.
Courtyard and garden for community wellness
The courtyard has been paved in basolato and the garden redeveloped as a usable green area, designed for sociability. The intervention is completed by the perimeter wall and the interior and exterior furnishings, for comfortable environments consistent with the new social function.
Urban regeneration between history and inclusion
The former Convent of Santa Chiara is today a model of urban and social regeneration, where heritage protection, innovation in use and inclusion meet. A place returned to the city, capable of generating cultural value and social cohesion.
